On April 1, 2024, Phoenix police responded to a report of a vehicle on fire in a canal near 55th Avenue and Osborn Road. Upon arrival, firefighters extinguished the blaze, revealing the body of 26-year-old Jose de Jesus Loeza inside the vehicle. The medical examiner determined that Loeza did not die from the fire, but instead succumbed to gunshot wounds.
