On the evening of December 8, 2022, Eduardo Antonio Uzueta, a 28-year-old male, was killed in Phoenix, Arizona, while enjoying a holiday tradition with his family. He, his girlfriend, and their two children were driving around a neighborhood to look at Christmas lights. The festive outing took a tragic turn when Uzueta parked his car in the 6600 block of West Fillmore Street to have a smoke.
A group of men, with whom Uzueta and his family had no prior contact, suddenly approached him.
An unprovoked assault began, which quickly escalated to multiple gunshots being fired at Uzueta. His girlfriend told authorities that they had never seen the men before. After being shot, Uzueta managed to get back to his car and informed his girlfriend of his injuries. They drove to a family member's home nearby and called for help. Emergency services transported Uzueta to a local hospital, but he ultimately succumbed to his wounds.
Investigators at the scene near Sunridge Park discovered a cellphone that had been left behind. The device contained text messages that indicated a plan among a group of individuals to meet at the park and commit armed robberies. This evidence led police to several suspects. One of the men implicated 19-year-old Isaiah Joshua Nash in the murder, stating that Nash had attempted to rob Uzueta, pistol-whipped him, and then shot him multiple times.
On December 16, 2022, Phoenix police arrested Isaiah Joshua Nash in connection with the fatal shooting. He was subsequently charged with first-degree murder and armed robbery for his alleged role in the death of Eduardo Uzueta.
