In the early morning hours of Sunday, May 17, 2020, Christopher Giblin Salles Jr., known affectionately as 'Kiki,' was tragically killed in Phoenix, Arizona. The 39-year-old was riding his bicycle in a neighborhood near 35th Avenue and Bethany Home Road when he was shot. Investigators believe that after being initially wounded, Salles attempted to flee, riding his bike into an alley before collapsing in the area of 37th and San Juan Avenues, where he was shot again.
Neighbors who heard the gunshots and Salles' screams promptly called 911. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 6:15 a.m.
Phoenix Police arrested 33-year-old Robert Angel Crow in connection with the fatal shooting. Crow, who was experiencing homelessness at the time, was taken into custody on the same day as the incident. During an interview with detectives, Crow stated that he had seen Salles outside the trailer he was staying in and felt intimidated by his presence. He admitted to leaving the trailer with a 9mm handgun he had purchased illegally and confronting Salles.
Christopher, born on May 27, 1980, was a beloved son, brother, father, and friend. He was known for his infectious smile and his willingness to always help others. He is survived by his parents, his children, his brother, and a large extended family. He had attended Bassett Middle School and Irvin High School, where he played football. Friends and family remember him as someone who enjoyed traveling, music, and lived life to the fullest.
