In the early morning hours of August 18, 2020, a shooting on Tucson's South Side left 32-year-old Christopher Moreno, a male, dead from gunshot wounds. The incident occurred in the parking lot of a Motel 6 located at 1010 S. Freeway Road. At approximately 9:15 a.m., officers from the Tucson Police Department were called to the intersection of West 22nd Street and South Osborne Avenue, where they discovered Moreno unresponsive and with apparent gunshot trauma.
According to police, a
female acquaintance of Moreno's was attempting to transport him to a hospital when she stopped a short distance from the motel to call for emergency assistance. Tucson Fire Department personnel arrived on the scene and took over medical aid from the police officers, but Moreno succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Homicide detectives were called to investigate the fatal shooting. While they were actively following up on leads, authorities reported at the time that the details surrounding the shooting were limited. Immediately following the incident, there were no suspects in custody, and the police urged anyone with information to come forward. There have been no subsequent public announcements regarding any arrests or the identification of any suspects in the case.
