In the evening hours of September 13, 2020, a burst of gunfire shattered the quiet of a south Phoenix neighborhood, leaving a teenager dead and another seriously wounded. Seventeen-year-old Isaiah Harris, a Black male, was fatally shot in the tragic incident that unfolded near 20th Street and Southern Avenue.
Phoenix police responded to calls of shots fired in the area around 7:30 p.m. and discovered two teenage boys with gunshot wounds.
Both victims were rushed to a local hospital for medical attention. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Isaiah Harris succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The second victim, a 15-year-old boy who was with Harris, sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The investigation into the double shooting is ongoing, with detectives working to piece together the events that led to the violence. Authorities have appealed to the public for any information that might lead to the identification and apprehension of those responsible for Isaiah Harris's death. A black passenger car, possibly a Dodge Charger, was seen leaving the vicinity of the shooting, which occurred in the area of 2000 East St. Anne Avenue.
As of now, no arrests have been made, and a suspect or suspects have not been publicly identified. The Phoenix Police Department's Violent Crimes Bureau, along with the Silent Witness program, continues to seek information from the community to bring closure to the case and deliver justice for Isaiah Harris and his family. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear as the investigation continues.
