In the fall of 2020, the life of 34-year-old Danielle Breed was tragically cut short in what police have described as a domestic violence situation. On the evening of October 2nd, in her Scottsdale, Arizona home, Breed was fatally shot. The suspect in her death was her ex-boyfriend, Charles Haeger, a 37-year-old former Major League Baseball pitcher.
The harrowing events unfolded when Breed's roommate returned home to the sound of gunshots emanating from her room.
Moments later, Haeger emerged from the bedroom holding a handgun. After pointing the weapon at the roommate, the roommate managed to escape the house and get a neighbor to call 911. When the Scottsdale Police SWAT team arrived and entered the residence, they found Breed deceased in her bedroom.
Following the shooting, a manhunt for Haeger ensued. His unoccupied vehicle was later found near Flagstaff, approximately 118 miles north of Scottsdale. The search for Haeger concluded the following day when he was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound along a trail at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon.
Breed, who also went by her maiden name of Long, was the owner of The Tipsy Coyote Bar and Grill in Scottsdale. Reports indicated that she and Haeger had broken up several months prior to her death, and she was in the process of seeking a restraining order against him. Her mother revealed that Haeger had been cyberstalking her daughter in the time leading up to the murder.
