Molly Elizabeth Toon Lillard, a 28-year-old Black/African American female, was a vibrant soul whose life was tragically cut short on April 11, 2021. In the city of Scottsdale, Arizona, what should have been a peaceful Sunday afternoon turned into a scene of devastating violence. Lillard, a former standout volleyball player for the University of Michigan and the cherished daughter of former New York Jets wide receiver Al Toon, was found in her home with multiple gunshot wounds.
Despite immediate medical attention and being rushed to a nearby hospital, her injuries proved fatal.
The person responsible for this senseless act was her husband, 36-year-old Royce Dale Lillard III. After shooting his wife, he barricaded himself inside their home. For hours, law enforcement attempted to make contact with him, hoping for a peaceful resolution. However, their efforts were in vain. Well into the evening, a SWAT team made the decision to enter the residence. Inside, they discovered Royce Lillard, who had taken his own life with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
