In the early morning hours of December 3, 2020, the life of 30-year-old Demeatris Roberson was tragically cut short in Phoenix, Arizona. Police responded to reports of shots fired at an apartment complex near 19th Avenue and Dunlap Road around 3:30 a.m. Upon arrival, they discovered Mr. Roberson in a common area of the complex, having sustained fatal gunshot wounds.
Investigators quickly identified a person of interest, 42-year-old Maurice Jackson. It was determined that he and Roberson had been involved in an ongoing dispute. As officers searched for the perpetrator, they were directed to another apartment within the same complex where they believed the suspect was located.
In an attempt to apprehend the suspect, a police K-9 was sent into the apartment, but was met with gunfire from inside. This led to an officer-involved shooting. The suspect, later confirmed to be Maurice Jackson, was shot and killed by police during the confrontation. A police K-9 was also injured during the exchange of gunfire.
