In the early morning hours of March 24, 2021, a simmering dispute between two former friends in Phoenix, Arizona, culminated in the tragic death of 32-year-old Michael Jude Montanarella. Montanarella, a White male, was fatally shot in an encounter that took place around 5:30 a.m. near 28th Street and Greenway Parkway. Phoenix Police officers, responding to a shooting call, found Montanarella with a gunshot wound.
He was quickly transported to a local hospital by the Phoenix Fire Department but succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.
The man responsible for the shooting, a 40-year-old individual, immediately contacted 911 to report his involvement. He remained at the scene and cooperated with detectives, claiming that he had been attacked by Montanarella prior to the shooting. The investigation that followed revealed a history of conflict between the two men, who were described as ex-friends. On the morning of the incident, an intense argument escalated into a physical confrontation.
