They quickly worked to secure the area, escorting several adults and children out of the apartment to safety. Inside, they found Eduardo Nunez-Ayala suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency medical aid was rendered at the scene before he was rushed to a local hospital. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, his injuries proved to be too severe, and he was pronounced deceased.
The investigation into the shooting swiftly pointed to a suspect who was not a stranger to Eduardo, but rather his own roommate, 32-year-old Cruz Guadalupe Martinez-Homo. According to police reports, the person who called 911 identified Martinez-Homo as the shooter. The investigation further revealed a grim motive; Martinez-Homo had reportedly developed a growing hatred for his roommate in the weeks leading up to the fatal shooting. Some accounts also described the two men as cousins.
Following the incident, Cruz Guadalupe Martinez-Homo was taken into custody and booked into the Maricopa County Jail. He faced the grave charge of first-degree murder, accused of ending the life of his roommate in a violent outburst that shattered the peace of their shared home.
