On July 3, 2021, 17-year-old Itzel Elizabeth Espinoza was found shot dead in a vehicle in an alley near the intersection of 35th Avenue and Southern in Phoenix, Arizona. The discovery was made by police responding to a report of a shooting at around 5:30 am.

Itzel had left her home the previous night to go out with friends, but she did not return. Her body was found two days after she went out, seated in the car where the shooting occurred.
