In the fall of 2021, a domestic dispute in Phoenix, Arizona, ended in a tragic loss of life. On the afternoon of Saturday, October 9th, the Phoenix Police Department received a chilling phone call from a man who identified himself as Daniel Chacón. He bluntly informed the dispatcher that he had just killed his partner, Christina Becerra, and intended to take his own life.
Responding to the distressing call, officers were dispatched to a residence near 17th Avenue and Chandler Boulevard.
Upon arrival, they located the home from which the call was made. Inside, they discovered the bodies of 50-year-old Christina Becerra and a 51-year-old male, later identified as Mark Chacón. It was a grim confirmation of the caller's confession and final intentions. Both individuals had sustained fatal gunshot wounds in what investigators determined to be a murder-suicide.
Christina, a Hispanic female and a well-regarded nurse practitioner in the Phoenix community, had been in a relationship with Chacón. While Chacón referred to her as his wife during his call to the police, it was later reported that the two were dating. The incident sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting the devastating consequences of domestic violence. In the immediate aftermath, law enforcement had not determined a clear motive for the violent acts. The case was left open as investigators sought to understand the dynamics of the couple's relationship and what led to the fatal encounter. The perpetrator, Mark Chacón, was deceased at the scene, and therefore, no arrests were made in connection with Christina Becerra's death.
