In the afternoon hours of a late February day in Phoenix, Arizona, a sense of normalcy was shattered by an act of sudden violence. On February 23, 2022, Sergio Chalpeno, a 34-year-old male, was inside a residence near 19th Avenue and Joan de Arc Avenue when an unknown individual forcibly entered the home. The intrusion quickly escalated, and Chalpeno was tragically struck by gunfire. The Phoenix Police Department received a call reporting a burglary in progress at approximately 3:00 p.m.
