In the Laveen area of Phoenix, Arizona, on March 2, 2022, the life of 16-year-old Prince Nedd was tragically cut short. Nedd, a Black / African American male, was working at a McDonald's restaurant located at 5120 Baseline Road when a dispute escalated into fatal violence. The young man, who had only been employed at the restaurant for a couple of months, was described by his family as a successful, honest, and smart individual with a bright future.
The incident unfolded inside the
restaurant's restroom, where Nedd and another 16-year-old, Christopher Track, were involved in an argument. The confrontation took a deadly turn when Track shot Nedd, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Following the shooting, Track fled, prompting a search by the Phoenix Police Department, who sought the public's help in locating him. The community and Nedd's loved ones were left in shock and mourning, gathering for vigils to honor the memory of the teenager known for his kindness and love of basketball and football.
A few days after the shooting, Christopher Track turned himself in to the authorities. He was subsequently charged as an adult for the killing of Prince Nedd. In the end, Track pleaded guilty to a charge of second-degree murder. For his role in the death of Prince Nedd, he was sentenced to serve 12 years in prison. The resolution of the case brought a measure of justice to a grieving family and community, though the loss of a young life remains a stark tragedy.
