On October 11, 2023, a tragic incident occurred in Laveen, Arizona, involving two roommates. The incident began with a physical fight between the roommates, 32-year-old Cooper Hoskyns and 34-year-old Sean Bertz, at a residence near 55th Avenue and Baseline Road.

When police arrived at the scene, they found both men with gunshot wounds. Cooper Hoskyns was shot by Sean Bertz as he entered the residence from the backyard. Following the shooting of Hoskyns, Bertz then shot himself.
