In the late hours of a Tuesday in June, the quiet of Laveen, Arizona, was broken by an act of violence that would claim the life of Mark Carrillo. A 39-year-old Native American man, Carrillo was a familiar presence in his District 6 neighborhood within the Gila River Indian Community, often seen walking in the area.
