In the Sunnyslope neighborhood of Phoenix, Arizona, the night of June 3, 2022, turned tragic for 15-year-old Damarkus Edison, a White / Caucasian male. Shortly before midnight, the teenage boy had just stepped outside of his home near the intersection of 13th Avenue and Vogel Avenue when he was struck by gunfire. The Phoenix Police Department responded to a call about the shooting at approximately 11:52 p.m. and found Damarkus near the roadway with apparent gunshot wounds.
He was quickly transported to a local hospital, but he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
Damarkus was known as an ambitious and loving young man with a passion for life. He was a creative soul who enjoyed writing music and had been learning to ride a dirt bike since he was three years old, with dreams of a motocross career. He also cherished spending time with his father, learning to work on cars, playing basketball, and singing. His family remembers him for his infectious smile and his ability to treat strangers like friends and friends like family. He was a beloved son and an older brother, and his sudden death left his family, including his mother, father, and younger sister, absolutely devastated.
The investigation into the shooting that cut Damarkus's life short is still ongoing, and authorities have not publicly identified any suspects or made any arrests in the case. The Phoenix Police Department's homicide detectives are actively seeking witnesses and any evidence that might lead to an understanding of the events that transpired that night. In an effort to generate leads, a reward of up to $2,000 is being offered for any information that results in an arrest or indictment. Damarkus's family, still grappling with their profound loss, has been left to navigate their grief while hoping for justice for the senseless act of violence that took their son.
