On a tragic afternoon in Yuma, Arizona, the lives of two individuals were cut short, leaving a community in search of answers. On Thursday, September 22, 2022, at approximately 4:31 PM, the Yuma County Sheriff's Office received a report of two unresponsive people on the side of the road in the area of County 13th Street and Avenue F. Upon their arrival, deputies discovered the bodies of 28-year-old Kristin Carrillo and 31-year-old Daniel Herrera Jr., both of San Luis, Arizona.

Carrillo, a mother of two, and Herrera had sustained apparent gunshot wounds and were pronounced deceased at the scene by responding fire department personnel. The Yuma County Sheriff's Office immediately launched a homicide investigation into their deaths.
Further investigation by law enforcement revealed a potential connection to another shooting that occurred that same day. Within ten minutes of the discovery of Carrillo and Herrera, a call came in about a third victim, 45-year-old Juan Luna-Montijo, who was found with gunshot wounds in a different part of town on Mojave Lane. Investigators have stated that they believe the two homicide scenes are related.
Despite the ongoing efforts of the Yuma County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Bureau, the case remains unsolved. Authorities have indicated that a significant challenge in the investigation has been the lack of witnesses coming forward with information.
