On March 28, 2023, Pedro Manuel Lopez Cañez, a 35-year-old man, was found shot to death on a sidewalk in a west Phoenix neighborhood. The incident occurred near the intersection of 43rd Avenue and Thomas Road, with police responding to reports of a shooting just before 10 p.m.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found Lopez Cañez lying on the sidewalk with multiple gunshot wounds. Despite the immediate response, first responders pronounced him dead at the scene.
