In the spring of 2023, a confrontation on the streets of Mesa, Arizona, turned fatal, ending the life of 42-year-old Arron Joseph Hendricks. On the evening of April 15th, Hendricks was riding his motorcycle with a group of fellow bikers eastbound on Main Street. An encounter with the occupants of a red Nissan quickly escalated into a road rage incident.
The simmering aggression between the motorcyclists and those in the car boiled over when both vehicles were stopped at a red light at
the intersection of Sossaman Road and Main Street. An argument broke out, and in the heat of the moment, a single shot was fired from the Nissan, striking Arron Hendricks in the neck. The red Nissan fled the scene, leaving chaos and a life hanging in the balance. Hendricks was rushed to the hospital, but he did not survive his injuries.
Witnesses at the scene provided police with a description of the driver and the passenger who had fired the shot. Critically, a witness's dashcam footage captured the red Nissan, which allowed authorities to quickly identify and locate the vehicle and its occupants. The investigation led to the arrest of 18-year-old Anton Sereghy.
During questioning, both the driver and Sereghy admitted their involvement in the road rage altercation with the motorcyclists. Sereghy confessed to the shooting, stating that he felt scared and 'lost it' when the motorcyclists were yelling and cursing at him. He claimed that Hendricks had spit at him, which prompted him to fire his weapon. Following the investigation, Anton Sereghy was charged with second-degree murder for the death of Arron Hendricks.
