In the late hours of a December night in Mesa, Arizona, a tragedy unfolded that would cut short the life of Jose Alcaraz-Hernandez, a 54-year-old Hispanic man. On December 16, 2018, what began as a regular evening at the Z's Convenience store near Dobson Road and Main Street ended in violence and loss. Alcaraz-Hernandez was working at the store when the incident, believed to be a robbery that had taken a grim turn, occurred around midnight.
