Chad Munoz, a former member of the Mexican Mafia who was in “bad standing,” was fatally shot on May 2, 2023, in Phoenix, Arizona. The perpetrator, identified as Bernal, committed the murder as part of an attempt to gain membership in the gang himself.

After shooting Munoz, Bernal directed others to dispose of the victim's body, which was later found in a valley canal in Maricopa County. This act was part of a broader scheme to cover up the crime and avoid detection.
