On June 6, 1999, Johnathan "Jody" Shields, aged 23, was shot and killed in the early morning hours at approximately 3:04 AM. The incident occurred along 501 Morse Street, NE, in Washington, D.C. Members of the Metropolitan Police Department responded to the scene following reports of a shooting, where they found Shields fatally wounded.
