In a tragic turn of events on a Tuesday evening in Glendale, Arizona, a verbal dispute escalated into a fatal shooting, claiming the life of 41-year-old Maurice Marshall. The incident, which unfolded on May 23, 2023, took place in the parking lot of an apartment complex near the intersection of 67th and Glendale avenues. Marshall, a Black/African American man, was inside his vehicle when the altercation began with another man whose vehicle was parked beside his.
Glendale police responded
to reports of gunfire shortly after 7:15 p.m. and discovered Marshall with multiple gunshot wounds. He was immediately transported to a local hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced deceased. The investigation quickly pointed to a suspect, identified as 37-year-old Quincy Lofton.
Through witness statements and surveillance footage, authorities were able to piece together the events leading to the shooting. It was determined that a verbal argument between Marshall and Lofton preceded the deadly shots. After allegedly firing multiple rounds at Marshall, Lofton fled the scene. However, his freedom was short-lived. Two days later, on the afternoon of May 25, Glendale police located and arrested Lofton near the scene of the homicide without incident. He was subsequently booked on charges of second-degree murder and weapons offenses. It was also revealed that Lofton had an outstanding warrant for extreme DUI and was on probation for a history of violent felony offenses.
