On the evening of September 7, 2023, Michael Jacobs, a 49-year-old man, was working his shift as a manager at a CVS pharmacy in Mesa, Arizona. His life was tragically cut short in a violent encounter that began with a simple act of shoplifting. Earlier in the day, Jacobs had a confrontation with a man named Jared Sevey, who was allegedly shoplifting in the store. Although CVS declined to press charges and Sevey was allowed to leave, the incident set in motion a devastating chain of events.
