In the early morning hours of December 19, 2023, the life of 29-year-old David Cordova was tragically cut short in Phoenix, Arizona. Cordova, a male, was at an apartment complex near 31st Avenue and Washington Street when he was shot. Phoenix police responded to reports of an injured man at the location just before 8 a.m. Upon arrival, they found Cordova with a gunshot wound.
He was immediately transported to a nearby hospital, but tragically, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
The investigation into the shooting quickly led detectives to a suspect. Following up on information they received, patrol officers identified 46-year-old Henry Celaya as the individual allegedly responsible for Cordova's death. Investigators learned that Celaya was at a residence near 33rd Avenue and Washington Street, not far from the scene of the shooting. He was located and arrested without incident.
Further details emerged suggesting the motive behind the fatal shooting was a robbery attempt. It is alleged that Celaya shot Cordova in the chest while he was sleeping in an apartment during the course of the robbery. Following his arrest, Henry Celaya was booked into the Maricopa County Jail. David Cordova, known to his loved ones as 'Sonny,' was remembered as a funny, loving, and caring person who was an amazing father to his three sons.
