In Glendale, Arizona, a visit with family turned tragic for Richard Arnold Longoria Jr., a 54-year-old male. On the evening of Wednesday, January 31, 2024, what began as a domestic dispute escalated to a fatal encounter. Richard, who was visiting from out of town and staying with his son, became embroiled in a series of arguments throughout the evening at the home near 43rd and Northern avenues.
The verbal altercations between Richard and his 36-year-old son, Ruben Richard Longoria,
eventually turned into a physical fight. The dispute reportedly reached its peak when Ruben told his father he needed to find another place to stay. Following this, Ruben claims his father threatened to kill him. This alleged threat prompted Ruben to retrieve a handgun from his bedroom.
He then shot his father multiple times. After the shooting, Ruben’s wife called the police. When officers arrived at the residence, they found Richard with multiple gunshot wounds. First responders transported him to a local hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead.
Ruben Longoria remained at the scene and was detained by the Glendale Police Department without further incident. He was later arrested and is facing charges of first-degree murder and misconduct involving weapons. A prior conviction in 2007 legally prohibited him from owning a firearm.
