In a west Phoenix alleyway, the life of 24-year-old Roy Orozco was tragically cut short on the evening of February 22, 2024. Responding to a call about a shooting at approximately 6:00 p.m. near the 4500 block of North 27th Drive, Phoenix police officers discovered Orozco with at least one gunshot wound. Despite the arrival of emergency services, he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The initial reports from the police had incorrectly stated Orozco's age as 28, but a subsequent update corrected it to 24.
The investigation into the homicide led detectives to identify a suspect in the fatal shooting. This individual was found and taken into custody six days after the incident. The suspect, identified as 22-year-old Andrew Ormsby, was arrested by Phoenix police on February 28, 2024. He was located in the vicinity of the 5900 block of West Bethany Home Road and was subsequently booked for his alleged involvement in Orozco's death. The police have not publicly disclosed a motive for the shooting or the circumstances that led to the confrontation in the alley. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have encouraged anyone with information to come forward.
