In the early evening of July 2, 2024, the life of 42-year-old Efrain Luna Jr., a Hispanic male, was tragically cut short in a shooting on the west side of Tucson, Arizona. Though some initial information incorrectly cited Phoenix as the location, the incident occurred in the 1700 block of West Ajo Way, just east of South Mission Road. Around 7 p.m., Tucson Police officers were dispatched to the area following reports of a shooting.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered Efrain Luna Jr.
in a wash located north of Ajo Way, near a shopping center. He had sustained gunshot wounds, and officers immediately began to render aid. Medics from the Tucson Fire Department arrived on the scene and continued life-saving efforts, but Luna ultimately succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the shooting was immediately launched and remains ongoing. Homicide detectives are actively seeking information from the public that might lead to an understanding of the events that transpired that evening. As of now, authorities have not publicly identified any suspects in the case, and no arrests have been announced. The circumstances that led to the shooting have not been released. Friends and family mourned the loss of Efrain Luna Jr., with funeral services held in Phoenix later that month.
