In the summer of 2024, a grim discovery was made in a second-floor apartment in the Ahwatukee area of Phoenix, Arizona. Firefighters, responding to a blaze on July 15th, entered the residence to find the bodies of three individuals, including 37-year-old Samuel Lott. It was quickly determined that their deaths were not a result of the fire; all three victims showed signs of trauma, leading investigators to believe the fire was intentionally set to conceal a more sinister act.

Lott, remembered by his brother as a loving individual and the 'best man you can know,' was found alongside Merissa Honeycutt, 27, and Anthony Frederickson-Ceccarelli, 25. The investigation into the triple homicide revealed a violent scene where the victims had been fatally shot and stabbed. Evidence suggested that the murders had actually occurred in the early morning hours of July 14, a day before the fire was set.
The investigation, aided by digital and physical evidence from the apartment, quickly led authorities to a suspect. Chase Scott Christman, a 30-year-old associate of the victims, was arrested on July 19, 2024. Investigators determined that the motive for the brutal crime was a planned drug-related robbery. Text messages indicated a drug deal negotiation between Christman and one of the other victims, and also revealed that Christman owed Samuel Lott $540.
A second suspect, 53-year-old Dorian Michael Rice, was arrested on July 23rd. Rice admitted to driving Christman to the apartment with the intention of committing a robbery and driving him away from the scene after the killings. In June 2025, Chase Scott Christman pleaded guilty to three counts of first-degree murder, armed robbery, and misconduct involving weapons. He was subsequently sentenced to three consecutive natural life sentences for his role in the deaths of Samuel Lott and the other two victims. Dorian Rice was also charged with murder and robbery in connection with the incident.
