In the early morning hours of October 14, 2024, the life of 49-year-old Dwight Deshawn Steele, a Black/African American male, was tragically cut short in a violent encounter in Glendale, Arizona. Just before 1:30 a.m., the sounds of a barrage of gunfire shattered the night's quiet near the intersection of 59th Avenue and Bethany Home Road. Glendale Police were alerted to the scene by multiple activations of their ShotSpotter system, a technology designed to detect and locate gunshots, which
were corroborated by numerous 911 calls from concerned residents who reported hearing the shots and seeing people fleeing the area.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered Steele suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite the immediate medical attention he received, his injuries proved to be fatal.
