In the early morning hours of Saturday, March 23, 2019, the quiet town of Douglas, Nebraska, was disturbed by a 911 call originating from a residence at 100 Otoe Street. Responding Otoe County Sheriff's Deputies arrived to a grim scene. Inside the home, they discovered the bodies of 56-year-old Randal "Randy" Grimes, a White male, and 51-year-old Annette Grimes.
Both had died from apparent gunshot wounds in what was being investigated as a double homicide.
As investigators began to piece together the events of that morning, they learned that the 911 call, made at approximately 5:45 a.m., contained sounds of a struggle and a female voice pleading for help. It took a couple of hours of interviewing neighbors and family members before a person of interest emerged. The Nebraska State Patrol, in conjunction with the Otoe County Sheriff's Office, the Lancaster County Sheriff's Office, and the Lincoln Police Department, began a search for Brindar H. Jangir, who was wanted for questioning.
The investigation soon revealed that the double homicide was not a random act of violence. Authorities determined that the victims had been specifically targeted. Jangir, who was 36 years old at the time, was identified as the ex-boyfriend of Randal and Annette Grimes' daughter. The daughter had reportedly secured a protection order against Jangir, which prohibited him from being near their home in Sioux City. She informed investigators that Jangir had made threats to kill her and her parents if she ever ended their relationship.
By Sunday night, Brindar Jangir was charged with first-degree murder in Otoe County. An affidavit connected to the case alleged that Jangir had used a shotgun that was stolen from a home in Lincoln to carry out the killings. The tragic event left the small community of Douglas in shock and mourning the loss of two of its residents.
