On June 23, 2019, a tragic shooting incident occurred in Omaha, Nebraska, resulting in the death of 24-year-old Jal Dak Kun. The incident took place near 33rd and Seward Streets, an area where Omaha Police Department officers were on patrol. Around midnight, officers heard multiple gunshots, prompting them to respond swiftly to the scene at 3216 Seward Street.
Upon arrival, officers discovered two individuals suffering from gunshot wounds.
Jal Dak Kun was pronounced dead at the scene, while 25-year-old Nyoun Joak, who was also shot, survived the attack. The police investigation into the shooting led to the arrest of 23-year-old Bol Kueth, who was charged with first-degree murder in connection with Kun's death.
The community was left in shock by this act of violence, raising concerns about safety in the neighborhood. The OPD's quick response and the subsequent arrest of Bol Kueth aimed to provide some measure of justice for Jal Dak Kun's family and to reassure the public that steps were being taken to address violent crime in the area.
