Bahy Altairi, 21, a Hispanic/Latino male, was shot and killed on the evening of October 2, 2019, inside Tobacco & Vapes near 32nd and L Streets in Omaha, where he worked at his family s shop. Officers responding around 7:30 p.m. found him dead inside the store. Early reports identified him as the victim and noted that the killing happened during a robbery at the business.
Detectives soon released a surveillance image of a suspect, and within days a 17-year-old, later identified in local coverage as Jacobi Terry, was arrested. Prosecutors charged Terry with first-degree murder and use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony. Court filings and hearings described how the assailant entered the store, shot Altairi, and stole a firearm from behind the counter. A judge set Terry s bond at $500,000 as the case moved forward.
In subsequent proceedings, authorities outlined a broader sequence of violence that night and said Terry was also charged in a separate shooting about two hours later that seriously injured another man in northwest Omaha. Investigators testified that the motive centered on obtaining guns, and a second teenager, Marshaun Box, was charged with conspiracy in connection with the crimes.
