On a tragic evening in Omaha, Nebraska, the life of 17-year-old Black male JaVondre McIntosh was cut short. On June 3, 2021, gunfire erupted in the northern part of the city, leaving two teenagers with serious injuries. When Omaha police responded to a call around 8 p.m., they discovered both JaVondre and Jia'Quan Williams, also 17, suffering from gunshot wounds. Both young men were rushed to the Nebraska Medical Center for treatment.
The initial hours after the shooting were critical.
Jia'Quan Williams succumbed to his injuries shortly after arriving at the hospital. JaVondre McIntosh was listed in critical condition, fighting for his life with what were described as life-threatening injuries. For two days, he held on, but ultimately, his injuries proved to be too severe. In the wake of the deadly shooting, the Omaha Police Department launched an intensive investigation to find those responsible. Their efforts led them to two teenage suspects. A 16-year-old and a 17-year-old were apprehended in the Kansas City, Missouri, area. The 16-year-old faced multiple charges, including the grave charge of first-degree murder.
