On December 5, 2007, 65-year-old John Vincent McDonald was among eight individuals tragically killed in a mass shooting at the Von Maur department store in Westroads Mall, Omaha, Nebraska. The assailant, 19-year-old Robert Hawkins, opened fire with a semiautomatic assault rifle, resulting in multiple fatalities and injuries before taking his own life.
