On a quiet Friday morning in Blair, Nebraska, the tranquility of a residential neighborhood was shattered by an act of violence that claimed the life of 34-year-old Jordan Ely, a White male. On May 12, 2023, at approximately 6:30 a.m., police were dispatched to a home in the 1000 block of Park Street following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered Jordan Ely deceased at the scene.
Inside the residence, officers also found Jordan's sister, who had sustained gunshot wounds
to both of her legs. Miraculously, her infant child, who was present during the incident, was unharmed. The family would later recount that Jordan died a hero, trying to protect his sister and his nephew from the gunfire. The injured woman was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
The suspect was quickly identified as 22-year-old Elijah Logan of Council Bluffs, Iowa, the father of the infant. It is believed he forcibly entered the home and confronted the mother of his child. When her brother, Jordan, appeared, he was shot numerous times. Authorities believe the attack was premeditated, as it's thought Logan parked his vehicle some distance away before approaching the house on foot.
Following the shooting, a multi-agency manhunt was launched for Logan, who had fled the scene in a green 1988 Jeep Cherokee. Law enforcement, including the Metro Fugitive Task Force and U.S. Marshals, searched for four days. The search concluded when Logan turned himself in to authorities in Omaha. He was subsequently charged with first-degree murder, assault, burglary, and child abuse, among other firearm-related offenses. In August 2024, a jury found Elijah Logan guilty on all counts for the attack that resulted in the death of Jordan Ely and the injury of his sister.
