On a tragic day in January of 2008, the life of Aaron Settipani, a 41-year-old Caucasian male, was abruptly ended. The events unfolded in the quiet town of Marshfield, Maine, where Settipani was visiting the home of 29-year-old Katie Cabana. It was in the early morning hours of January 23rd that Richard W. Widdecomb Jr., Cabana's 25-year-old ex-boyfriend, arrived at her residence armed and upset over their recent breakup.
Inside the home, in the presence of Cabana's three young children, a horrific scene transpired. Widdecomb opened fire, fatally shooting Cabana. He then proceeded to shoot Settipani, who was found in his truck outside the home. During the chaos, one of Cabana's children, her 6-year-old daughter, was also wounded by a gunshot to the foot. The other two children were physically unharmed but witnessed the traumatic events.
Law enforcement was called to the scene, and an investigation quickly pointed to Widdecomb as the perpetrator. He was located and taken into custody. Widdecomb was subsequently charged with two counts of murder for the deaths of Aaron Settipani and Katie Cabana. Richard Widdecomb Jr. initially entered a plea of not guilty but later changed his plea to guilty. In February of 2009, he was sentenced for the double homicide.
