On May 31, 2011, in Farmington, Maine, 23-year-old Andrew Ward Holland was fatally shot by his friend, Ryan J. Ouimet, also 23. The incident occurred inside an apartment near the University of Maine at Farmington, where both had recently graduated. According to court documents, Ouimet was handling a .380-caliber handgun, tossing it between his hands, when it discharged, striking Holland in the abdomen. An autopsy confirmed that the cause of death was a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
