On November 20, 2012, 49-year-old Gerard "Gerry" N. Parent was fatally shot while hunting deer in a wooded area near East Road in Wales, Maine. The incident occurred around 4:19 p.m., when Parent and another hunter, 41-year-old Christopher Austin, both from Wales, were separately pursuing the same deer. Austin fired two shots; the second struck Parent in the throat, leading to his death.
