In the small town of Parkman, Maine, the evening of May 12, 2015, was shattered by a violent tragedy that left one man dead and another seriously injured. David Grant, a 61-year-old White male, was found deceased in the front yard of his mobile home on Packard Road. An investigation by the State Medical Examiner's Office would later confirm that he had died from multiple gunshot wounds.
The quiet, rural setting of his home, surrounded by abandoned vehicles and children's toys, became the scene of an intense investigation by the Piscataquis County Sheriff's Office and state police detectives who worked through the night to piece together the events that had transpired.
At the scene, authorities discovered a second man, who was seriously injured and in need of immediate medical attention. This individual was transported to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor and was admitted to the intensive care unit. It was soon revealed that the injured man was 38-year-old Zachery Grant, the son of the deceased. His injury was determined to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the face.
Following his initial treatment, Zachery Grant was transferred to Acadia Hospital in Bangor for further care. As state police detectives continued their investigation, and in consultation with the Office of the Maine Attorney General, they moved to arrest Zachery upon his release from the hospital.
