On July 26, 2014, in Saco, Maine, 12-year-old Jason Montez was tragically killed in a murder-suicide orchestrated by his stepfather, Joel Smith. The incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. in the family's apartment at the Riverview complex. Jason was found shot in his bedroom, along with his 7-year-old brother, Noah, and 4-year-old half-sister, Lily, who were also shot in their respective rooms.
