In the quiet town of Oakland, Maine, the life of Michael Muzerolle, a 29-year-old White male, was tragically cut short on the night of November 4, 2015. Known to his friends and family as "Mikey," he was a good-natured and selfless young man, always ready to lend a hand. He had a love for laughter and was often the life of the party with his prankster sense of humor. His warm eyes and kind, generous soul drew people to him.
The pride and joy of his life was his young daughter.
On that fateful evening, a horrific act of violence unfolded at the two-apartment house on Belgrade Road where Muzerolle lived with his girlfriend, Amanda Bragg, and their three-year-old daughter. Also residing in the home were Amanda's sister, Amy Derosby, and her boyfriend, Herman DeRico. In a sudden rampage, DeRico used a 9mm handgun to shoot and kill Muzerolle, Bragg, and Derosby inside their first-floor apartment.
Amid the chaos, Amy Derosby was able to make a call to 911, providing valuable information to the police before she succumbed to her injuries. When law enforcement from multiple agencies arrived at the scene, they found the three victims and, miraculously, Muzerolle and Bragg's unharmed three-year-old daughter. The gunman, Herman DeRico, was found outside the residence, having taken his own life.
The investigation that followed confirmed the events as a triple homicide and suicide. With the perpetrator deceased, no arrests were made in connection with the deaths of Michael Muzerolle, Amanda Bragg, and Amy Derosby. The motive for the devastating attack remained a mystery to investigators. The community was left to mourn the senseless loss of three young lives, forever changing the lives of their families and friends.
