In the early morning hours of July 19, 2017, the body of a White female, 55-year-old Sally Shaw of Cherryfield, Maine, was discovered by a passing motorist alongside Route 193. The initial investigation by Maine State Police quickly determined her death to be a homicide, launching a search for those responsible that would span multiple states. An autopsy later confirmed that Shaw had died from gunshot wounds to the head.
