Carlton Dequan Weekly, known professionally as FBG Duck, was a 26-year-old African American male rapper from Chicago, Illinois. On August 4, 2020, he was tragically shot and killed in the Gold Coast neighborhood of Chicago. The incident occurred in the late afternoon while Weekly was shopping outside a retail store. He was one of three people shot when a group of four individuals exited two cars and opened fire. Weekly was rushed to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The other two victims sustained serious injuries. The shooters fled the scene in a black Ford Taurus and a silver Chrysler 300M sedan. An investigation into the shooting remains ongoing, with surveillance footage being reviewed from stores along the street.
The murder of Carlton Weekly, also known as FBG Duck, was linked to a brutal gang war between his Tookaville faction of the Gangster Disciples and the O Block set of the Black Disciples. This conflict was exacerbated by drill rap diss tracks between Weekly and King Von, an O Block leader who allegedly placed a bounty on Weekly before being shot to death months later. On January 17, 2024, a federal jury convicted six reputed gang members for their roles in the murder of Weekly. The defendants were found guilty of multiple counts, including murder in furtherance of a racketeering scheme. The convicted individuals included Charles "C Murda" Liggins, Kenneth "Kenny Mac" Roberson, Tacarlos "Los" Offerd, Christopher "C Thang" Thomas, Ralph "Teezy" Turpin, and Marcus "Muwop" Smart.
The trial, which lasted more than three months, revealed that the suspects used their music and social media to influence violence, including Weekly's murder. Federal prosecutors presented surveillance video and social media videos to link the suspects to the shooting. Weekly's mother expressed gratitude to the United States government for ensuring that the convicted individuals would never harm another person again. The defense is expected to appeal the convictions, with sentencing dates set for August and September. The defendants face mandatory life sentences.
