In the quiet town of Orrington, Maine, a somber discovery was made on the morning of October 5, 2022. Lois Swanson, an 89-year-old female, was found deceased in her home on Swetts Pond Road. A family member made the heartbreaking discovery and immediately alerted the authorities.
Upon their arrival, the Penobscot County Sheriff's Office found not only Lois, but also her husband, Russell Swanson, also 89, deceased within the residence.
The Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit was called in to investigate the circumstances surrounding their deaths. Neighbors of the Swansons, who had known them for the roughly 25 years they lived in the neighborhood, remembered them as a kind and friendly couple. They recalled spending time fishing, hunting, and playing cribbage with them.
Following an investigation by the state medical examiner's office, it was determined that the couple died as a result of a murder-suicide. Authorities confirmed the cause of death but stated that no further details would be released to the public. As the case was ruled a murder-suicide, there was no search for suspects and no arrests were made in connection with the death of Lois Swanson.
