On a tragic day in March of 2019, the life of 44-year-old Autumn Bryant, a Caucasian female, was cut short in a violent act that unfolded in Gardiner, Maine. Bryant had recently separated from her husband, Kenneth Bryant, 48, and was seeking refuge at her brother's home on Fairview Street. The couple, who had previously lived in Livermore Falls, had initiated divorce proceedings after separating in November of the preceding year.
On the morning of March 19, Gardiner police responded to a
call and arrived at the Fairview Street residence to a grim scene. Inside the garage, they discovered Autumn Bryant still alive, suffering from two gunshot wounds. She was rushed to MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta, but ultimately succumbed to her injuries and passed away. The perpetrator, her estranged husband Kenneth Bryant, was found deceased in his pickup truck in the driveway, having turned the gun on himself after shooting his wife.
The investigation into the murder-suicide revealed a related and destructive event that had occurred earlier the same day. A house on Messalonskee Lake in Sidney, owned by Autumn Bryant's mother and stepfather, was destroyed by a fire. Authorities quickly linked the fire to Kenneth Bryant, believing he set the blaze before traveling to Gardiner to confront his estranged wife. The homeowners were in Florida for the winter at the time of the fire and were notified of the tragic events. The case was ultimately closed as a murder-suicide, with Kenneth Bryant identified as the sole suspect in the death of Autumn Bryant.
