On August 1, 2019, during a family camping trip near Crow Creek Falls in the Elkhorn Mountains of Broadwater County, Montana, 11-year-old Caden Daniel Lacunza was fatally shot in the head. His father, Cadet Lacunza, reported that he had been "reckless" in firing his .357 revolver, believing his family was near the campfire and not realizing his son was nearby. Investigators determined that tree branches obscured Caden from his father's view while the boy was cleaning fish in a creek.
