On a tragic evening in the small town of Superior, Montana, the life of 43-year-old Logan Gardner, a White male, was cut short. On August 27, 2023, Gardner was working his shift as a bartender at the Four Aces Bar, a local establishment. The atmosphere of the bar took a dark turn when a dispute between a married couple, Kraig and Jenny Benson, escalated into a violent confrontation.
The husband, Kraig Walter Benson, had been harboring suspicions that his wife was having an affair with Gardner. After a heated argument with his wife at the bar, Kraig Benson walked out to their vehicle, retrieved a handgun, and returned. In a shocking act of violence captured on surveillance footage, Benson first shot his wife, Jenny, before turning the weapon on Logan Gardner. As patrons fled in terror, Benson fired multiple shots at Gardner, who was attempting to retreat.
Gardner died at the scene from multiple gunshot wounds.
Following the shooting, Kraig Benson fled the scene in his wife's vehicle. His escape was short-lived, however, as law enforcement located and arrested him in nearby Missoula County shortly after the incident. He was taken into custody without incident. The community of Superior was left reeling from the violent deaths of two of its residents.
Kraig Walter Benson was charged with two counts of deliberate homicide. During his trial, he claimed that his wife had told him she was leaving him for Gardner, which he alleged triggered his actions. In October 2024, a jury found him guilty on both counts. Subsequently, he was sentenced to 140 years in prison, ensuring he will spend the remainder of his life incarcerated for the murders of Logan Gardner and Jenny Benson.
