In the winter of 2022, the life of Vanessa "Nessa" Mae Clancy, a 45-year-old White/Caucasian woman, came to a tragic and abrupt end. On February 13th, in a room at the Extended Stay America Hotel on River Drive South in Great Falls, Montana, a call was made to the police at 4:11 PM. Responding officers discovered a grim scene. Inside the hotel room, they found Vanessa and a man, later identified as 60-year-old Roger Miles, both with gunshot wounds.
Vanessa was born on Christmas Day in
1976, in Glasgow, Montana. She was a mother to four children and a grandmother to three. Described as a kind-hearted, loving, and caring person, she had a passion for nursing, a profession she was very proud of. Her life was filled with a love for her family, the Pittsburgh Steelers, and Michael Jordan. She was known for her love of singing, basketball, and spending time with her loved ones. After living in various places in Montana, she and her family eventually settled in Great Falls in late 2012.
The events of that February afternoon were investigated by the Cascade County Sheriff's Office. Their findings pointed to a murder-suicide. It was determined that Vanessa Clancy died from a gunshot wound to the head. Roger Miles' death was ruled a suicide, caused by a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. While Miles was pronounced dead at the scene, Vanessa was transported to a hospital, where she ultimately succumbed to her injuries. No other suspects were named in connection with her death.
